It is our mission to serve and help the poor, the vulnerable and the afflicted in our community. We empower them to overcome their difficulties by assisting them with food, clothing, referrals and advocacy. The Parish Outreach provides services to the needy of Central Islip through its Food Pantry and Thrift shop.
Nuestra misión es servir y ayudar a los pobres, los vulnerables y los afligidos de nuestra comunidad. Los capacitamos para superar sus dificultades ayudándolos con alimentos, ropa, referencias y defensa. Oficina Parroquial de Alcance brinda servicios a los necesitados de Central Islip a través de su Despensa de Alimentos y la tienda de Segunda Mano.
The Outreach is composed of two main sections, the Thrift Shop and the Food Pantry. The Thrift Shop was founded in 1982 by Evelyne Bonanno with the desire of helping the poor. The Thrift Shop helps in providing low cost gently used clothing and housewares to the community. The items sold here are acquired through donations of our generous parishioners. The proceeds help to maintain the establishment running. In additions, it helps us to assist families who are facing economic challenges, such as, evictions, cancelations of electric services etc.
La oficina Parroquial de Alcance se compone de dos secciones principales, Tienda de segunda mano y La Despensa de Alimentos. La tienda de segunda mano fue fundada en 1982 por Evelyne Bonanno con el deseo de ayudar a los pobres. La tienda de segunda mano ayuda a proporcionar ropa y artículos para el hogar de bajo costo a la comunidad. Los artículos vendidos aquí se adquieren a través de donaciones de nuestros generosos feligreses. Los ingresos ayudan a mantener el funcionamiento del establecimiento. Además, nos ayuda para ayudar a las familias que enfrentan desafíos económicos, como desalojos, cancelaciones de servicios eléctricos, etc.
The Food Pantry has been serving the community since 1989. It was founded by Libby Bures who saw the need of helping the poor in the community. Initially, it began serving only 28 families monthly. Since then, the numbers of needy families has increased. Presently, we serve over 150 families, approximately, 400 people who come to the Food Pantry Twice a month. Each family receives food for three days (9 meals) food bags. We assist to the extent of our limited resources. The pantry is financed through the generous donations of parishioners, and local Not-for-Profit agencies, such as Long Island Cares and Island Harvest. The strength of the Outreach is the love and service of our very dedicated volunteers and the support of our pastor, Daniel Rivera who believes in this program.
La Despensa de Alimentos ha estado sirviendo a la comunidad desde 1989. Fue fundada por Libby Bures quien vio la necesidad de ayudar a los pobres en la comunidad. Inicialmente, comenzó a atender solo a 28 familias mensualmente. Desde entonces, el número de familias necesitadas ha aumentado. Actualmente atendemos a más de 150 familias, aproximadamente 400 personas que acuden a la Despensa de Alimentos dos veces al mes. Cada familia recibe alimentos para tres días (9 comidas) bolsas de comida. Ayudamos con lo que podemos basado a nuestros recursos limitados. La despensa de alimentos se financia a través de generosas donaciones de feligreses y agencias locales sin fines de lucro, como Long Island Cares, Island Harvest. La fortaleza de Alcance es el amor y el servicio de nuestros voluntarios muy dedicados y el apoyo de nuestro pastor, Daniel Rivera, quien cree en este programa.
